That is hilarious. My favorite part: Sleeve Length: Sleeveless, Tank

Frustrating night last night. Hey Mercedes was playing in Portland along with The Fire Theft and Saves the Day (and Grandaddy). HM was first. Showtime was listed as 7:00. To me that means 7:15ish, but to the Crystal Ballroom that means 6:45. So when we arrived at 7:20, after an hour and a half car-ride, HM was already haulin' their stuff off stage. I was so frustrated.

Then we had to sit (thank god they have actual seating for those over 21) through the absolutely horrible Fire Theft. I seriously cannot believe how bad they sounded. And the lyrics! I don't own their album, but I could understand them. Like this embarrassing passage:

I'm not American
I'm not European
I'm not Russian
I'm just me!

Fortunately, Saves the Day were relatively interesting. We left before Grandaddy hit it.

Pitchfork has an interesting article on Blur. Most interesting is that they'll be releasing a new EP this year, which is cool. For some reason the following excerpt had me cracking up:

It's expected that the songs Blur is recording for the disc will be fleshed-out reinterpretations of tracks first released in crap form last year on frontman Damon Albarn's recent ill-titled demos collection, Democrazy, which he recorded in hotels while Blur toured the United States. The band may also rework other tracks from the compilation for future projects.

I am so Waits-illiterate that I had no idea that the songs I do not enjoy on Good News are Waits-influenced. That explains a lot. But why are we focusing on the negative? What's everyone's favorite song? Oh, and I saw them on Craig Kilborn. It was really cool, actually. Sounded great.

Finally, Dana and I saw Iron & Wine a couple of weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised--they're very good live. He had a full back up band, and his sister accompanied him, so the sound was very full. I recommend catching them if they make to whereever it is you, my internet friends, supposedly live.

Anyhow, I am just killing time here at the office. My firm is going through a new computer install, and we can't leave the computer dudes alone here, which means that I am here with them at 6:00 on a Friday night. It's a hilarious scene, there are decapitated monitors all over the place, wires strewn about, side panels from various CPUs on the floor, and two overweight, mid-20s, confused-looking guys with ill-conceived facial hair and severely over-sized T-shirts running around. They both said they'd had neither seen nor heard of the movie War Games, which I find odd.

"Dance Hall" is one of the three songs on the album that I skip every time. I think the background music is cool, but Mr. Brock is hard to stomach on that track. Do you like it, Ethan?

Regarding their OC appearance: Modest Mouse's label is really promoting them this time 'round. They have a street team and everything.

The new Modest Mouse album is great. They're on Craig Kilborn tonight. Out.
